Sports news2016 ……Our School Swimming Carnival is on Thursday the 18th Feb at the Fitzroy Pool. All children in years 4-6 plus those confident and capable from grade 3 will be attending to compete for their “House” and for the opportunity of representing our school at the District Swimming Carnival on the 25th Feb and also, importantly, for the fun of “having a go!”

 Children will be asked to nominate for events at a special House Group meeting on the 4th of Feb. All events are 50m. Events include freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and freestyle relays. On the day we will be leaving at 9.15 and be back at school about 12.45. We need help with Finish line judging so if you are able to help can you please come along! 


STATE TEAM SELECTION   The process for team selection for Vic State Teams is going to be conducted differently in 2016. there will no longer be District trials, but an online process will be offered to those children turning 10, 11 or 12 in 2016 CHECK OUT the following for more info or see Geoff

In the first week of term 2 we have our School Cross Country. I know of some children who are already in serious training. We will be building up the distance in Phys. Ed. Each week in term 1 provided it’s not too warm, but children who wish to do really well should be making the time to do some running outside of school too!
 
Regional Athletics- Milly M,  Eliza GJ, Alet I and Grace M all competed with great results from all of them. The standout result was Eliza who won her Shot Put event and has qualified for the State Championships!! Unfortunately she will be in Hong Kong instead. (Priorities?)


Interschool sport for all 5/6 students starts Oct 15 and runs for 7 weeks!

Division Aths 7th October

At Division Aths we had a fantastic display of effort and results.  Luca McG, Milly M, Arlo H, Jules S, Eliza GJ, Alet I, Ollie G, Marnie G, Grace M, Gideon G, Ells G made up our team. Four have qualified for Regional Aths on the 14th of October, at Epping again. Congratulations to Milly M,  Eliza GJ, Alet I and Grace M. on qualifying for Regional Aths next week with your brilliant results and Good Luck! Thanks to Warrick too who accompanied them.

Athletics day is on August 13... at Coburg Aths track.
Region Cross Country, it's one week later and the competition is even hotter. Jasmine missed out on going to the State Championships by just one place!, Bethany was just two places further back and Milly had a difficult time with an upset stomach and finished in the middle of the field (49th). Luca came 35th-great results achieved by all!


Interschool sport is over for term 2. It was a rain interrupted season but our teams performed very well with the boys Soccer team finishing second and the girls Netball team as possible District Champs. Our no. 1 Teeball team was second in the District with our AFL team further down the ladder, hoping to pick a favourable draft pick possibly. I'm waiting on official confirmation of the results! More as soon as I find out.



Division Cross Country 10th June. Efforts and results outstanding. Those who finished in the top ten are off to Region CC next Wed 17th. Congratulations to the following!!! Daniel B-21st, Gideon G-18th, Milly M-1st, Ari P-27th, Luca P-7th, Bethany J-4th, Jasmine P-5th. Qualifiers but couldn't attend were Filip M, Grace M, Sarsha H, and Aidan T. All deserve applause for their fantastic, and determined efforts!

Region Cross Country is on Wed 17th June!

Cross Country is on Wednesday the 25th of March (last week of term) from 12.00 to 14.00. If any parents can help supervise around the course we'd love to have you help. Contact Geoff if you can please!


INTERSCHOOL SPORT for grades 5/6

HELP NEEDED! Interschool sport starts on the 7th of May and runs for seven afternoons from 12.30 to 3.30. we need help from parents to conduct this. If you can spare some time and hopefully commit for the seven afternoons, we'd love to have you come along and assist. Please talk to one of the 5/6 teachers or Geoff if you can help, Cheers!


Regional Swimming 11th March
The girls relay team of Grace, Sarsha, Milla and Ella came a very close second place, beaten by only a second I am told. A fantastic effort. Grace G came a fantastic fourth in Backstroke. Brilliant results for this level of competition!!!!

 Division Swimming, 4th March, Northcote Pool Results.... The 11 yo Girls relay team came first with a time of 2.52!!!!! faster than the 12 yo girls and equal to the time of the 12 yo boys. Grace M, Ella G, Sarsha H. and Milla W. make up the team.  Grace M. also came first in her Freestyle event with Sarsha second! Grace G. was first in her Backstroke event. Flynn McG. came a great third in Butterfly! Regional champs is on next week on the 11th March.

After qualifying at the Carlton District Swimming Carnival....  Maddox E, Flynn McG, Grace G, Milla W, Sarsha H, Grace M,  and Ella G will all compete next week. Congratulations to them and all our other District Competitors who performed extremely well.

Inner North Moreland Division Tennis Competition.

Luca P. will have competed by now at the are now the Inner North Moreland Division Tennis Champions after competing on the 20th of Feb at the District Comp where he finished first whilst competing with a shoulder injury! Congratulations to Luca and also to Mara N, Arianne T, Alexandra C and Luca McG who tried out at the District level.
The District Swimming carnival is on the 26th Feb at Fitzroy, quickly followed by Division on the 4th of March then Regional on the 11th of March, both at Northcote.

HOUSE CAPTAINS 2015

On Tuesday the 3rd of Feb. interviews were held for students interested in becoming a Captain or Vice Captain. The standard in which the students addressed the criteria was very high. Decisions were made with input from two JSC student members who were very impressive with the questions they asked the applicants. Thank you to Bassi and Ivy for their input on the panel. We look forward to the contribution over the coming year from the following. Congratulations!

 SWIMMING

In the first week of school (Thurs 5th) we will be having House meetings (grades 3-6) to organise Swimming entries for our School Carnival on the 19th February. So start having a think about what events you would like to have a go at! All children in grade 4-6 will be attending plus those in grade 3 who have the confidence to swim 50 m. More info in the first week of 2015......

House Captains, Vice Captains. Interested students from grade 6 will be given criteria then interviewed in the first few days of term to appoint students to these roles. First task will be to assist in the organisation of our Swimming Carnival.

Cross Country, this will be in the last week of term but training will start in the first week of term! Get those running shoes on!

Regional Aths
Congratulations to Milly M, Tilly S, Vera C, Zoe S, Alet I and Grace M. on their effort at Regional Aths, Milly competed in the 1500m and gave it her all, the relay team of Vera, Alet, Zoe and Grace qualified with a fifth place in the heats then finished third in the final! Tilly finished second in the hurdles which means she qualifies for the State Championships. -although it appears Hong Kong and China beckons!



 Two great afternoons of Cricket related fun activities were enjoyed by grade 2’s and 1’s this week,  conducted by Youlden Parkville Cricket Club!









At Division Aths on the 8th of October we had a fantastic display of effort and results. Joel R, Luca McG, Milly M, Lucien I, Tilly S, Arlo H, Jules S, Eliza GJ, Harper E, Charlotte S, Via F, Florence D, Olivia C, Alet I, Vera C, Grace M, Zoe S made up our team. Six have qualified for Regional Aths on the 15th of October, at Epping again. Congratulations to Milly M, Tilly S, Vera C, Zoe S, Alet I and Grace M. on qualifying with your brilliant results and Good Luck!

Interschool Sport for grades 5 and 6 starts in the second week of term 4 ! Sports are Cricket, Basketball, Newcomb and Rounders! a note will be coming home with more!
District Aths- the sun shone again and we now have 16 students qualified for the Division Aths on the 8th of Oct at Epping, they are Joel R, Via F, Luca McG, Milly M, Lucien I, Alet I, Tilly S, Arlo H, Jules S, Eliza GJ, Harper E, Vera C, Grace M, Zoe S, Charlotte S, Florence D. Congratulations to them all on a wonderful achievement! 

Youlden Parkville Cricket Club are conducting Clinics for students in grades one and two in the first week of term 4, stay tuned!

Athletics Day a great day on the 14th when the sun shined and so did our students. I'm sorting out the qualifiers for District Aths on the 4th of Sept. more info soon!

Regional Soccer Championships. Our team was persistent, tactical and displayed fantastic sporting behaviour, but after making it to the semi final, we were out. However the day was a great result and Princes Hill finished third in these Championships, one step below the State Champs. Well Done Boys! (photo to come!)

Soccer Champions after the Division finals are PRINCES HILL!  Three games without conceding a goal, next step is the Regional Champs on Monday the 18th of August. Congratulations to Lucien, Jude, Jordan and Jordan, Jules, Callum, Seamus, Hugo, Oliver, Kerem, Seb, Ruli, Harry, Jack and Jake! Also to Simon who has been coaching them.

State Cross Country- Milly competed on one of our very cold days at this event and came 77th! A fantastic result, and to put it in perspective there are 20,000 (approx.) 11 yo girls eligible in our Primary schools that were potential competitors! Congratulations!


Interschool Sport, Winter season is over with excellent results for Princes Hill. Our Boys Soccer team are the District Champions! they will continue competing at Division level in week 3 next term. In Netball our girls came a very close second and in Teeball our teams came 3rd, 4th and 5th out of  the 15 teams competing. Our Basketballers finished up in the middle of the field. Congratulations to all of our 5/6 students  for their effort.


Region CC, only Aidan could attend because of the 5/6 camp and he came a fantastic 30th out of 60 competitors. An application was made for the others to be invited to the State Championships however only Milly has been accepted due to her top 4 finish. So on the 17th of July Milly will be at Bundoora again trying her absolute hardest for another great result, Good Luck Milly!

Carlton District Cross Country was held on the 1st of May in great conditions and the efforts of our students was also great. Congratulations especially to Milly M, Aidan T, Bethany J, Ari P, Ben S, Sarsha H, Filip M, Jasmine P, and Via F. who have qualified for Division CC on the 11th of June.

Congratulations to Tilly S for being selected at the District Netball trials to continue in the selection Process to form the State Netball team. A fantastic result against talented competition!

Cross Country- We will conduct our Cross Country event on the 3rd of April at Princes Park. The students have been training hard and are ready to go! We need some parents to help supervise, so if you can help out on the day come and see me in the gym at 12.00 on the 3rd. Your child's age group is determined by the age they turn this calendar year. Children competing in the 10, 11, 12 age groups will be eligible to qualify for the District CC on the 1st of May if they finish in the top ten!

Interschool sport- commences on the 8th of May. We have one parent who has volunteered to help out and would love more if possible. If you can spare the time for six Thursday afternoons from 12.45 to 3.30 it would be very much appreciated! We are in the process of finalising teams.

District trials for  State team selection. We are in the process of selecting students to attend District/Division trials in the sports of Hockey, Cricket, Soccer, Aussie rules, Tennis, Netball and Basketball. The trials are still occurring but congratulations to the following who have already achieved success in being selected to represent PHPS. Division & Region Swimming, 5th March, 12th March, Northcote Pool

After qualifying at the Carlton District Swimming Carnival....  Maddox E, Tilly S, Hugo W, Seb D, Lucien I, Callum C, Jordan P, Sarsha H, Grace M, Zoe S and Ella G all competed in conditions that weren't particularly pleasant, yet as we would expect tried their absolute hardest. After very successful efforts, Qualifiers for the Region swimming competition are as above. A very big thank you to the parents for helping to get our swimmers get to the Pool on these two Wednesdays!

Inner North Moreland Division/Region Tennis Competitions.


Lucien I. and Luca P. are now the Inner North Moreland Division Tennis Champions after competing  on the 28th of Feb. Congratulations and Good Luck on the continuing journey at Region level! which will be held on the 24th March at Eaglemont!




School Swimming Carnival, Thursday 20th Feb.

A great morning was had at our swimming carnival, where some fantastic efforts were observed! There were some very nervous faces at the start but all the students who entered an event are to be congratulated! At the young leaders’ day this year Jess Fox, (silver medalist, London) spoke to the children and one of the things she said was “you don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great”  


A big thank you to the parents that were there to support their children and in particular to those that helped in an official capacity. A fine effort by the children in Gold House saw them as the Champion House for this year!

Carlton District Tennis Competition.

Straight after our Swimming Carnival three of our boys competed at the Carlton District tennis Comp. and two of them, Lucien I. and Luca P. are now the District Champions who will compete at the Division Contest on the 28th of Feb. Congratulations and Good Luck!

PHPS-  SWIMMING CARNIVAL

After voting the children volunteered for swimming events for our school carnival on the 20th of this month. The entry lists are on display in the 34 and 56 neighbourhoods. Check them out! Another exciting year coming, starting with House Captain elections on the 6th of Feb. followed by students nominating for events for our School Swimming Carnival on the 20th of Feb, This is quickly followed by the Carlton District Swimming Carnival on the 27th of Feb. The Swimming Carnival involves all students in Grades 4,5,6 plus those competent and willing to have in a go from Grade three. If you are from Grade three and would like to compete please come and talk to me. 

We will also be training for the School Cross Country being held on the second last day of term and be involved in trials for possible State Team selection in a variety of sports, more info about these coming soon. Thanks Geoff.
